Good! I'd much rather the Flyers sign Suter in Free Agency then trade for him now. Especially with him saying he wants to wait until the Summer to sign.

If Suters signed, does that spell the end of Matt Carle in Philly?

Or is that more dependent upon Prongers health?

im glad he finally admitted what we all knew. he aint signing now. while i understand players wanting to play for a contender w/ he and weber sharing that same story now im glad the talk should end for a while. they are basically holding the team hostage and its starting to wear thin in music city. we dont want to lose them, but they aint making any fans either. he will bring more of what we need come summer anyway and as i have commented many, many times the draft is the time to make the move. repeat same story for weber a year from now.

I'd agree. This show me what you got attitude is a bit arrogant and doesn't get fans on their side. And if he does decide to walk you'll always get more for him in the off-season when teams have more cap room to maneuver with.

Wouldn't you rather have a package now that could help you for the playoffs? I don't think you will get much more at the draft because he is a UFA. Weber yes you could get more because a team at least has one year of control. How many time have we seen big packages traded for the rights to a UFA? Not any I can think of

Will they get a package that will help them more right now than Suter?

I know the flyers need help on D, but I am wary of the upcoming trade deadline deals. Just a little nervous.

Then the Flyers would be (frank)ing idiots. They don't have enough depth to pay a premium for Suter.

Trading a huge amount of assets right now, for any defenseman, is a bad idea.

The Flyers can't just sign Suter in the off season without losing salary anyway. The Flyers can't afford suter at say six mil, jvr at 4.25 and Schenn's salary goes back up to 3.1 next season, not to mention Carle can't be resigned either. And Voracek will get a raise and whatever Jagr signs for. If they get Suter now they have a shot to sign him between the end of the season and july first. If the Flyers have to wait until july first they might have to overpay to get suter because of a bidding war where as if he is already on the team he may sign for a lower salary but longer term on the contract. The Flyers are a young team they can afford to deal young assets for another youngish asset.

Most likely that would mean Carle is gone.

Do you think Suter is going to take less just because the Flyers traded for him? Suter will have the Flyers by the balls. He can name his price. Or the Flyers lose him to Free Agency July 1, and give up whatever they traded to get him to rent him for a few months.

The Flyers can find room to sign him in the Summer!

That's assuming there will be no bonus cushion, and if there is, the Flyers can simply send Schenn down to the AHL for one game again, and avoid half of his cap hit.

It's highly unlikely that Suter signs for less than he would in the open market if the Flyers acquire him at the TDL or even at the draft.

Whose rights have the Flyers traded for that signed below market value? Bryzgalov? Pronger? Hartnell? Timonen? None of them.

Trading young guys on EL deals, for guys that make-or will be making-huge salaries is not the smart approach here.

The benefit of a team trading for a player is getting time to "sell" the city to the player. I'm sure playing for the flyers, he could get comfortable with the team.

Sounds like this guys going for the money if he's traded to a city that isn't willing to give him a BIG contract. Problem with these kind of guys (if he is going to turn out to be) is they think... "can i get a $50M contract?".... "can i get a $60M contract"

would you give him a 12 year $60-66M+ contract?

If the Flyers think that he's the best fit to fill their needs, they won't be shy about handing him a big contract.

The thing is, the Flyers went out, and retooled with some nice younger pieces. Shuffling those pieces off now is just really bad asset management.

The Flyers would never trade for Suter and lose him. I absolutely think he would take less per year if the overall years are there, say ten years 55 mil.

There may be years on the back end to lower the AAV. But he isn't going to take less just because the Flyers traded for him. His price is his price.

Selling the City to him isn't going to lessen his price.

If not more. But Suter would laugh at an offer of 5M a year.

Nashville had done a lot of talk about having the money but have only let guys walk every summer. They sit near the cap floor again even after going two rounds. They did nothing all summer or thus far in the season to give anyone a clear indication that they've chosen to really go for it.

I feel if they don't really make a big time splash between now and the deadline I see Suter walking and Weber will be traded shortly after that as he will have no interest in resigning.
